According to Mayo Clinic, the Mediterranean diet lifestyle is a heart-healthy eating plan and anyone who is interested in learning more about the diet, may attend Ladies Night Out, co-sponsored by Jersey Community Hospital Wellness Center and the Jerseyville Public Library, Friday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at the Wellness Center.
A 2007 study conducted in the United States found that both men and women who consumed a Mediterranean diet lowered their risk of death from hear disease and cancer. In a 2006 study, Columbia University Medical Center researcher Nikolaos Scarmeas, MD and colleagues showed that elderly New Yorkers whose eating habits most resemble the Mediterranean diet, have about a 40% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease than do those with poor diet.
At the Ladies Night Out, participants will try out a Mediterranean meal prepared by Carla’s Catering. For this part of the program practitioners of a Mediterranean diet are encouraged to shere their experiences.
Those who attend the class will also have the opportunity to try something new – the Sexy Girl Dance Class with Dena Marshall.
The Ladies Night Out will wrap up with a holiday decoration swap. Bring a holiday decoration you have grown tired of at home and swap it for something new.
Ladies Night Out is limited to the first 40 women to register by calling the Wellness Center at 618-498-3500. Cost is $15 for the meal.
