The Jerseyville City Council approved the low bid from Valley Construction, Inc. of Edwardsville for construction of a new animal control facility.
Approval was unanimous for the $258,100 1,500 square foot project to be located east of the Jersey County Highway Building on Shipman Road.
The re-location of the present facility is a necessity since the present location is at the city’s sewer complex. Shortly, construction to enlarge that plant will be underway and the animal facility will not be located there. Mayor Yvonne Hartmann said that the city owns the land where the new facility will be built.
Jeff Soer, City of Jerseyville Building Code Officer, said he has not gotten the specifics of when the construction will start but it should be soon. They want to have it completed in order to move the animals in before construction starts on the sewer plant.
In other action, the council voted to purchase a new mower head for use in the cemetery and other areas. The present mower head would be in the neighborhood of $7,300 to repair and a new mower head would be in the $15,650 range (with a $5,500 trade in). The item will be purchased from Wm. Nobbe and Sons and will be deferred for its first payment until the next fiscal year, 2010.
Trick or Treat hours in Jerseyville will be Saturday, October 31 from 5 to 9 p.m. Only go to those houses that have a porch light on!
